Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station is also known as Nampally Railway
Station as it is located in Nampally locality of Hyderabad. The word
'Nampally' literally means wet and moist place.In Urdu,'Nam' means moist
and 'pally' means place.
This station was built by Md. Zulfaquar Ali
(last Nizam of Hyderabad) in 1907. It functions under South Central
Railways. It is well equipped and modern railway station with all
amenities for the convenience of passengers.
Hyderabad Railway Station boasts of a state-of-the-art NTES (National Train Enquiry System) as well as POET (Passenger Operated Enquiry terminal).
There is waiting room, cloak room, tourist information centre, computerized reservation office, retiring room facility for the passengers. In addition, there are book stalls, tea stalls, refreshment rooms and restaurants (serving veg. and non-veg. food) for the refreshment of people.
For the disabled, there is facility of wheel chair and one can even avail of stretcher for the sick.
City buses, autos and taxis are available from the station. There are many hotels in the vicinity of this station. Other important places near this station include Airport (18 kms.), Salarjung Museum (3 kms.), Birla Temple (2 kms.), Charminar and Mecca Masjid (4 kms.). Secunderabad Railway Station is around 8 kms. from here.
The first passenger train started functioning from this station only in 1921! The reason for this delay was that Begumpet Railway Station was under construction. The railway line passed through the property of Sir Vicar-Ul Umra who contended that trains should stop at Begumpet.
After he granted permission, the construction of this station was complete and trains began to ply between Hyderabad and its twin city Secunderabad, passing through Begumpet Railway Station or Hussain Sagar Junction.
Today, Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station is a busy station with many super fast and express trains originating from here. These include Andhra Pradesh Express (Train No. 12723) going to New Delhi, Charminar Express (Train No. 12760) going to Chennai Central, Chennai Express (Train No.12604) going to Chennai Central, East Coast Express (Train No. 18646) going to Howrah Junction, Godavari Express (Train No. 12728) going to Visakhapatnam Junction, Hyderabad Deccan-Pune Express (Train No. 17014) going to Pune Junction, Hussainsagar Express (Train No. 12702) reaching Mumbai.
